Summary
Romans 3 exposes the depth of the human problem and the brilliance of God’s solution. The teacher’s preview quoted Leon Morris, who described it as the turning point where the darkness of human sin gives way to the blazing light of God’s righteousness.
In the first half of the chapter Paul levels the ground. There are no exceptions, no hidden righteousness, and no moral high ground. Stripping away false confidence lets us see our need for mercy honestly.
From verse 21 on, God’s righteousness is given through faith in Christ. Paul’s words for it are justification, redemption, and grace, which restores what we could never repair ourselves.
Questions to think about
- Do I see my need for mercy honestly, or am I still looking for some moral high ground?
