Summary

Romans is one of the towering works of Scripture: influential, sophisticated, comprehensive, and theologically rich. It invites us to think deeply and live boldly in the power of the gospel, and it challenges both mind and heart.

Paul had not yet visited the church in Rome, so he lays out the gospel with unmatched clarity. God’s righteousness is revealed through Jesus Christ and received solely by faith. The letter has sparked reformation and revival, and Martin Luther called it the purest gospel and the daily bread of the soul.

The book answers two deep questions. How can we be made right with God? And what does a transformed life look like? Righteousness is not earned but given, and God’s grace creates a new kind of person marked by faith, hope, and love.

Questions to think about

  1. How can a person be made right with God?
  2. What does a life changed by the gospel look like?
