The Cosmic Battle
- Passage
- Revelation 12
- Taught
- May 25, 2025
Summary
The slides frame the chapter this way: Revelation 12 shows what is happening in the spiritual realm, and Revelation 13 shows it taking shape in the physical realm. They list the three signs in heaven, the woman clothed with the sun, the fiery red dragon with seven heads and ten horns, and the seven angels with the last plagues (15:1). They read the first two as Israel bringing forth Jesus and Satan failing to destroy him, and the third as the coming judgment, summed up as “God wins.”
In 12:1–6 the child is caught up to God and the woman flees to the wilderness for 1,260 days. In 12:7–12 Michael and his angels fight the dragon, who is thrown down to earth, and a voice declares that the accuser of the brothers has been defeated by the blood of the Lamb and the word of the saints’ testimony. In 12:13–18 the dragon pursues the woman and makes war on the rest of her offspring.
Each section ends with lessons: a spiritual battle is raging and the victory belongs to Jesus; Jesus is a faithful defense attorney and is with us under attack; and Satan harms God’s family, but God often protects and sometimes allows suffering for the sake of the Kingdom. The slides end with a short poem that retells the chapter.
The three sections
The class read the chapter in three parts:
- 12:1–6. A history lesson: the woman, the dragon and the child.
- 12:7–12. Satan cast down.
- 12:13–18. Satan’s rage.
Lessons learned
The slides close each section with a lesson:
- There is a spiritual battle raging, and no matter how things seem, the victory belongs to Jesus.
- Satan’s failure ensures our eternal victory.
- Jesus is a faithful and sovereign defense attorney, with us even under great attack.
- Satan causes great harm to God’s family, but victory belongs to the Lord.
