Summary
Gideon answers the complaint of Ephraim gently, and pursues the Midianite kings even though his 300 men are exhausted. Succoth and Penuel refuse to give his men bread, and Gideon captures Zebah and Zalmunna. The slides take this as a lesson to respond to criticism with grace, keep pursuing when weary, and not let fear or insecurity block support. They also warn about drifting from calling to vengeance.
The men of Israel ask Gideon to rule over them, and he says the Lord will rule. Then he asks for their gold earrings and makes an ephod, which becomes a snare to him and his family as all Israel turns to it. The lesson warns against shifting focus from God to anything else.
The land has rest for forty years, but after Gideon’s death the people return to the Baals and forget the Lord. The slides summarize Gideon’s whole story, from hiding in the winepress to victory, and close with a warning that victory is not the end: it is a test.
